Should probably measure by flight hours rather than how many years they have been around.

I flew Air New Zealand from London to LA pre-Covid (before they sadly discontinued the route) and it was the loveliest flight I’ve ever been on.

Qantas hasn't had a fatal accident, however air new Zealand lost a dc10 in Antarctica.

Finnair: 100 years old
Last incident: 1963

Anyways that's not the way it should be measured.

It’s a pretty bad metric because air New Zealand only has about 30 long haul jets while Emirates or Singapore Airlines have hundreds. I’m sure even though they’re younger, they have significantly more time in the air so therefore have been operating for more flight hours.

I’m actually shocked with the quality of these new videos..I remember the usual ones on GTA V but this is phenomenal from the music choice to the images used and the way you slowly brought them in. You’re absolutely killing it man, I can’t wait to see how you evolve🙏🏼

The fact these two are on top makes me think it’s an issue with the way they measure safety. My bet is it’s incidents per flight hour, which would benefit carriers with a disproportionate focus on long-haul since most incidents happen on takeoff and landing. These two have tiny (but wealthy) domestic markets that are REALLY far away from most of the world. 10+ hour segments are a core part of their business. Gulf carriers would potentially be in an even better spot, but they’re so new that they don’t yet have as many cumulative flight hours as ANZ and Qantas.

Dan, I think your should go on the world’s longest Domestic flight from French Polynesia to France on air Tahiti nui! It has been on my bucket list forever and you could help me see if it’s worth it!

qantas has never had a fatal crash and it’s over 100 years old

Ryanair is much bigger than both and hasn’t crashed before. Also their flights are shorter meaning more landings and takeoffs. It should be on # of flights not years the airline has existed

Because they really learned from this one awful incident On the morning of 28 November 1979, Air New Zealand. Flight TE901 left Māngere airport, Auckland, for an 11-hour return sightseeing flight to Antarctica. At 12.49 p.m. NZST, the aircraft crashed into the lower slopes of Mt Erebus killing all 237 passengers and 20 crew on board.

QANTAS has actually had multiple fatal aircraft accidents but their last fatal accident was in 1951. Air New zealand has had 3 fatal accidents (dc-8 crash f-27 crash and a dc-10 crash) but their last crash was in 1979

Qantas is much older than Air New Zealand and has no fatal jet crashes out of the jet era. It also has much more flying time.

Are these overall totals or based on the amount of flight hours? In which case I’m sure it would be different

A correction to this QANTAS is not Australia's national airline. The Australian government has no interest in QANTAS, it is predominantly owned by international investors. Australia does not have a national airline.

Proud to be born and raised NZ but we need more carriers other than Air NZ and Jetstar
