Switching systems probably seems a lot easier said than done but it’s a cool concept.

Trying other systems has been the best thing I've done for my games, hands down.

People should remember that the system DnD is a game not about exploration, not about story telling, not about war or mysteries.

95% of the system is designed fundamentally for killing monsters. Hit points dont matter to negotiation, damage doesn't matter for puzzles, and monsters generally have nothing that applies outside of a combat scenario.

DnD is a monster killing simulator. If your game doesn't kill many monsters every session, look into a different system.

In my case, I just kitbash a bunch of mechanics and bits I like from various systems. If it works, it works.

Thieves Guild campaign? Play Blades in the Dark. Next thing you know you completely flesh out the criminal underworld of your setting with numerous factions that can even translate into your DnD campaign. There’s only a benefit by trying out other systems to broaden your horizons and give you inspiration.

Interestingly, this was one of the functions of D&D's planar cosmology for some in the early days. Each plane could have its own ruleset.

I dipped into Numenera for a few sessions of a D&D 5e campaign I was running. Worked well.

Certainly a fun idea. At the very least, I've often thought about using different systems for downtime actives or even types of skills not represented in the game. It's just like when someone makes a supplement boom to add alchemy or strongholds or naval combat - those are new rules, and they don't always resemble the game you're already playing.

I'm doing this with DC20 & D&D with my party! This is great advice. Love your channel. Keep kicking ass! 🍻

I love the Palladium system. It can be a multi-verse sandbox.

True. I have a campaign ready for a bunch of new players set in the Forgotten Realms, the current DnD setting, but will use the Nimble v2 rules at first and maybe switch to DnD if they want.

it's something we're doing rn, though it's to playtest a custom dnd-based system, which we want to use in the next campaign

Now I've run different game systems in the same settings and homebrewed ideas from one system into another, but this is a crazy notion. I gotta try it. 😅

I'm very unimaginative because my friends and I just use Big-Eye/Small-Mouth D20 and crossed that with the Feats/Powers system from Knights of the Old Republic 2 because we're a bunch of anime-StarWars nerds.

Puffin Forrest has a video where he talks about a game where his D&D characters took a one session field trip to our world in a different game system that only had humans. I forget what the other system actually was

Currently doing this now. We started off in dnd, transitioned into heros unlimited, to rifts and now entering star wars. 4 different campaigns but all charectors are tied Into previous campaigns charectors and stories.
