Thieves Guild campaign? Play Blades in the Dark. Next thing you know you completely flesh out the criminal underworld of your setting with numerous factions that can even translate into your DnD campaign. There’s only a benefit by trying out other systems to broaden your horizons and give you inspiration.

Certainly a fun idea. At the very least, I've often thought about using different systems for downtime actives or even types of skills not represented in the game. It's just like when someone makes a supplement boom to add alchemy or strongholds or naval combat - those are new rules, and they don't always resemble the game you're already playing.

Trying other systems has been the best thing I've done for my games, hands down.
People should remember that the system DnD is a game not about exploration, not about story telling, not about war or mysteries.
95% of the system is designed fundamentally for killing monsters. Hit points dont matter to negotiation, damage doesn't matter for puzzles, and monsters generally have nothing that applies outside of a combat scenario.
DnD is a monster killing simulator. If your game doesn't kill many monsters every session, look into a different system.
