There are the same three reasons for failure in career, finance and personal relationships...

Think of a colleague you don’t get along with...

Why is there a communication gap... why don’t they like your ideas... why don’t they ever have your back...

You’ll mostly find that it’s either their ego coming in the way... or an insecurity that you will look better than them...

Now think of why personal relationships fail...

People hold on for grudges with their parents and relatives, almost never letting them go because of ego and / or insecurity...

And even with spouses, a majority of marriages these days tend to break within the first year of people living together...

Its often also impatience in wanting to understand the other’s perspectives, rigidity in lifestyle...

And the same things are the cause for failure in finance too...

Impatience to let compounding work its magic in 15+ years...

Rigidity in their own old ways of not wanting to understand how some asset classes may give higher return than a few traditional ones...

Insecurity that pushes them to pull out when an asset class does poorly in the short term...

And ego that they can’t be seen doing something so simple / complex with their money based on their peers and folks in the immediate environment.

👉🏼 In varying degrees, it’s always Ego, Insecurity, and Impatience.

And this to my mind is the biggest filter to categorize people in your team... after checking for integrity... and them imposing what is called a “bar raiser” in Amazon terminology.

There has to be absolutely no tolerance for an integrity issue...

Thereafter, don’t just score people on skill... the most egoist, insecure and impatient people on a team typically bring in the most trouble.

Replace them with others at the earliest because one rotten apple spoils the whole bunch.
