I have this gun, and didn't know about this feature until now. As I was typing out my question about this, I think I answered it myself. This is so you can have a round in the chamber (with safety off) without resting the hammer on the firing pin, while also not having to worry about the hammer dropping and setting off the chambered round. Correct?

My boss always forgets to take the safety off and it really shows his flinch when he’s trying goes to shoot 😂 even though it’s only a 2
