That depends on your definition of "better". Nighttime explorarion is more forgiving because it doesn't punish you much for inefficient dungeon crawling. Daytime exploration, on the other hand, encourages more careful planning, preparation and efficient SP and items management. When you manage to complete a Palace in one go, you feel like you really achieved something and deserve your reward in the form of extra time.
Also, P5R has plenty of nighttime Confidants, so by going to Palaces at night you would also miss out on your social life.

Daytime dungeon gives you that "teenage superhero" experience of actually having to balance your personal and superhero life instead of them being neatly separated by default.
It also creates an incentive to put some effort in your dungeon preparation, because now there is a cost of going home to recover. it give your choices weight they might lack otherwise.

Realistically speaking dungeon crawling during the day sounds more plausible.
Imagine being the SEES member: You already drained from school and afternoon activities, then having to stay awake until the middle of the night (I don't remember we have an option to sleep before going to Tartarus), doing an exhausting one hour battling shadow physically and mentally (calling out persona), and after that you still have to walk to the dorm, getting up early and going back to school the next day.

When dungeon crawling is at night they push it by making so you have not a lot of activities at night but when dungeon crawling is at daytime they try to balance day and night slots evenly (in persona 4 you can spend time with daytime social links at evening to build points and in persona 5 there’s 50/50 split in day and night confidants)

As I think about it, I think it would be a good thing to allow MC to go to the dungeon at any time, BUT if you go to the dungeon at day, some night activities are locked (like training and some confidants, however you can go to shops and do other half of confidants), and if you go at night some of the day activities are also locked. I think it's kinda cool decision, cuz it won't kill the pace, and won't make everyone go to the dungeon at night.

I feel that the fact that it's at night gives the game more mystique, like "One by day and another by night"
Besides, in my opinion, it gives you more of a chance to feel immersed in the story and enjoy it (Also, the Emperor & Empress boss fights and the Jin & Takaya boss fights take place in Tartarus)
Furthermore, P3R does not have Nighttime Social Links, except for Tanaka and the Binding Episodes.

Night felt nice in 3 since there wasn’t much outside of grinding social stats, meaning there was a consistent feeling of what happened any night for a while and you didn’t feel bad whichever way.
In 4, you still didn’t have a ton to do at night. You weren’t required to use your night slot for the dungeon, so night social links opened up sooner. However, it mainly kept the same vibe as before with it just being catch-up time(sometimes literally with fishing) and a few social links.
5 gave night a ton of stuff, and made it so you’d almost always have a confidant or something cool to do(like darts, billiards, or the jazz club in Royal). There was also fishing, the bath, and the batting cages. You could work part time jobs, however it doesn’t feel necessary if you don’t want to. But, of course, they made it so going into the Metaverse that day eliminates a lot of the night activities.
While it’s interesting balancing, I don’t like it. Not just because it makes you feel worse about going, but because for a game about making planned decisions with your time, robbing you of your evening before you know anything or can make any sort of decision about it sucks.
Personally, either day or night dungeons are good. I want whatever matches the game best. Night is theoretically easier for calendar aspects, as you can see everything you give up before you decide. But if the game’s vibe and narrative fits day better, it should be daytime.

Night-time is certainly more convenient, but I felt that it was a lot less interesting of a decision to make. Tartarus always felt more like a chore I had to finish, whereas P4 and P5 made dungeon crawling feel like an important choice that brought with it some nice risk/reward for attempting it early.
I think P5 adding additional dungeon content to complete between deadlines was a smart way to compel players to actually experience that social/dungeon balance, whereas before it was just a matter when you took the time clean your gutters before forgetting about it for two weeks. P3 and P4 tried this with their side quests, but it just made me wait until no more side quests popped up before going into the dungeon.

There’s a reason I only spend a day in the palace and go to Mementos once every month or two months there’s not enough time in the day so you have to prioritize
