Office of Governor Ron DeSantis State of Florida
The Capitol
400 S. Monroe St.
Tallahassee, FL 32399-0001

There has been worldwide attention drawn to Florida FWC and the completely unprofessional manner in which they work with reptile keepers in Florida, how inept the system is at ensuring pro-active keepers can stay within regulatory guidelines and showing no concern for the lives of the animals kept. In what has become known as "The Holy Thursday Massacre", 34 captive bred constrictors were improperly and inhumanely killed consisting of reticulated pythons, burmese pythons and a gravid boa one month from giving birth to 32 hatchlings that was a legal, unrestricted pet that was killed out of sheer incompetence and the officers not properly recognizing the species they were killing.

This situation is unacceptable and even non-reptile keepers from around the world are working to correct this malfunction of the system in Florida.

Form letter (copy-paste-sign-SEND)
Governor DeSantis,
I am reaching out as a concerned citizen to make you aware and implore you to step in on behalf of your constituents.

On Thursday April 6th 2023 FWC officers killed 29 reticulated pythons, 5 Burmese pythons and a gravid Boa Constrictor in front of the owner and caretakers of these animals. The owner states he had these animals in the full knowledge and compliance of FWC. I would argue that regardless of compliance, the dispatching of these animals was uncalled for, not to mention the inhumane manner in which the four hour act was completed. I implore you to consider the difference between the intent of the laws/statutes/regulations and the letter of them.

Enforcement officers are able to determine in the moment if there's a violation; their decisions are not always correct (displayed by the killing of the Boa constrictor which is not a restricted species in FL). While human error is expected, handing down lethal "justice" is irreversible. Responsible law abiding keepers should be given the opportunity to plead their case before the courts. Had the animals been confiscated and surrendered to local rescues, the owner would have that chance.

I beseech you to stop the tyrannical and irreversible overreach of FWC by calling for the resignation of all FWC leadership, the immediate dismissal of each of the enforcement officers involved in the murder of 35 innocent animals on April 6th (Corteguera, Wright, Beppel, and Ryan).
Furthermore, I ask that you hault FWC's seizure and killing of animals for "Prohibited Species," until USARK Florida's lawsuit challenging the validity and constitutionality of these rules is resolved.
Sincerely,

Murdering those PETS did absolutely nothing to help what's happening out there in the wild. Nothing.

Shouldn't the people who decide what animals are ok to keep and which aren't have at least a basic knowledge of how to identify said animals? If they couldn't tell the difference between a dog and a wolf, a lot more people would care.

Our pets are family members! I don't have a Boa but have met some of my friend's Boas over the years. They are sweet tempered animals. Less dangerous than alot of dog breeds. Cats are more destructive to ecosystems. Leave people's pet snakes alone! I have a pet monitor, he's not just a lizard, he is one of my kids in my eyes. Those FWL officials murdered that man's family member!

If you care about these animals and keepers’ rights, join US ARK (United States Association of Reptile Keepers)! The Floridian US ARK was pictured at the end of the video, but it covers all states. They cover the latest in reptile keeping news, laws, and tragedies like this. Fight for your rights! No one will EVER touch my animals like this.

The fact that the pythons were basically slaughtered was terrible. They were not wild animals, and had been raised in captivity for their entire lives. There was no reason to kill them. In fact, the owner had been trying to move them out of Florida and requested more time to do so, but he never got a response or extension. There needs to be more effort put into humanely removing the Burmese pythons loose in the Everglades, not the ones kept properly in captivity.

People should lose there job for killing the boa and should have taken with attempt to re-home others before euthanizing but honestly should have been grandfathered in

As Far As I’m Concerned FL. Fish & Game , Commission , Has Lost All Credibility , By Killing Those Pythons & Boa !!! There Should Have Been A Way For this Owner To Have Sold Those Pythons Instead Of Having Them Killed on His Property !!! These Officers Must Be Held Accountable For Their Actions !!!

I have a ball python and this is why if they did require me to get a license for her in my area i definitely wouldn’t cause they can change the law then later come back and kill her. My ball python and my leopard gecko mean just as much to me as a pet dog would. I would be devastated but thankfully my pets never leave the house
