In the caliche soils you have there, Jim, If the trench was to remain open for more than a month or two until you get the tubes constructed. If the length of time goes muich past that, or the rains get too heavy and wet the soil in the sides too much, then reinforcements would be desired. Take care, Much Love and Happy 4th!π

Hey Jim,,, stay safe,,,, we all care about you,,, I used to work for COS Water Resources and trench safety was the bible,,, I understand you have to to what you have to do.... the trench your in is pretty stable,,, and you have your beautiful Wife watching you... keep up the good work,,, awesome channel,,, my Wife and I are off grid too building has it challenges... be safe... thank you...

High clay content, makes the walls very stable. But wearing the harness, with a sturdy rope, is one safety measure, never more than one in the trench at a time. Never work alone. I was cleaning up wide trenches for motel footers, in Florida. Florida dirt, is mostly sand. I was fortunate, a couple other workers were not. Things like moisture ,and any vibrations, earthquakes, heavy equipment, strong gusts, animals playing around, can all bury a person.
