we always planted fall and winter turnips at the last corn cultivation in July when the corn was knee-high in Quakertown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA.

We also grew Swedes and Marrow stemmed Kale for winter feed, I think you Americans call Swedes Rutabaga, or something like that, but they would grow great i your climate, they love it cold,

Try daikon radish. Daikons really open the soil because they grow deep, increasing the chances that there will be multiple tops for grazing. Daikon is the best bang for your buck. :)
