Even before we had our son, my husband and I had rules at our house. No drugs, alcohol, or drama. If you visit us then you leave it at the door. When you have that set of rules and enforce them you'll be surprised how many people stop coming around and how much more peaceful your home and life becomes.

Very true. We stopped going to 1 set of grandparents' house during the holidays because we were not emotionally safe. Cruelty should not be excused for the holidays. You do not want to model for your children the allowing of people to be verbally abused in the name of, "family". Stop the cycle by walking away from it.

My in laws are toxic, and gave me and my husband several heartbreaks already. Because of that, me personally, I don’t want to hang out with them anymore. I want to maintain my peace and sanity. My husband it’s up to him if he’ll still tolerate his toxic family, it’s his family after all, not mine. Me, I’M DONE! I’ve had enough!

My Mom and Dad have since gone to the Lord, but many members of my extended family live on. Dad's side is nothing but drunks and drama and Mom's side are all antisocial, even with each other. I avoid them, especially on holidays. You can't choose your family, but friends can be the family you choose. Surround yourself with people who uplift and encourage you, not drag you through the mud with them.

I agree and had to stop the behavior of family members who came to my home events. It was painful and sad that they had to be removed... but it had to be done for peace.
