Before a shackle or any piece of Crosby rigging hardware can be forged, first, the die blocks need to be manufactured. Crosby shackles are forged using a closed die forging process. Along side the die blocks, the trim tool sets need to be made to cut away the excess steel.

This is step one in the process of forging a Crosby shackle, hook, eye bolt, turnbuckle, or any other piece of forged Crosby hardware used for lifting and rigging.

The dies are manufactured from raw steel in a programmed CNC machine based on designs that come from the Kito Crosby engineers. From there they undergo regular maintenance to make sure that they maintain Kito Crosby quality standards. When finished they are sent to the drop hammer forge to pound hot raw steel billets into their finished shape. Each die block includes clear lettering to ensure full traceability of each Cosby product.
