Lin always had better strategy and mental toughness than LCW.

Lin Dan's foot work is so good that for average audience it looks like he is just walking effortlessly to get the ball. He spend the minimum movement to return the ball in the most efficient manner. He position himself strategically and doesn't always rush back to the center immediately after returning the ball, because he constantly limit his opponent's options of returning the ball. He also able to sense opponent's weight shifting and when the balance is off, he is in for the kill. World class offense and defense.

Haha I made the exact same observation in 2012 or 13 - whenever he was in a pressure situation, LCW had a tendency to try and force the pace and play high-paced shots from his deep forehand.
His match-winning shot in the '16 SF is a bit of a bitter sweet thing because it's the one time he didn't fall back to his instincts and yet still failed to capture the Gold...

Watching Lin Dan play is so freaking fascinating. Put it to 0.5 speed and you see every tiny movement matters. GOAT

Always found that Lee doesn't have the deception that Lin has. Lee is quick and he can hit the shot but sometime he hits it so slow and with little deception that it's very readable. And you can not give someone like Lindan the time to read a shot and plan.

Lindan has better mental strength when under pressure.

Both are GOATS but in Very crunch situations Lin was a bit better than LCW

To add extra context, Lin Dan was always more prepared facing Lee Ching Wei compared to vice versa. LCW is the no.1 ranking for a reason, he joined more world series and open than Lin Dan. When LCW is playing and LD isn't, this gives the opportunity for LD to analyse LCW better and prepare for their inevitable encounters. Their encounter was always in the biggest stage like the Olympics, World Championship, All England or at least the final of high tier open.

LCW local fans and media alike have been preaching (about not sending LCW on every tournament available) for years but the local badminton association doesn't seem too bothered about it

LCW tends to play fast pace shots during crucial points /when he’s pressured, lindan jz need to create the conditions for LCW to produce his unforced error, and even if LCW choose to play slow pace shots during critical moments, lindan can still seize the chance to play more offensively instead, no matter what LCW do, Lindan is always ready to counter him comfortably

In all 1:1 games, mindset matters. For example in table tennis for some players, they have tendency to laugh or keep smiling on other player and this deviate them from winning. Similar way once you fear for opponent you gradually lose the energy on last part of the match. Badminton is an unique game where it will be interesting to watch any 2 people playing that. For example a kid vs kid still looks hard, a random college guy vs college guy play would look better than the current match. Real reason of lcw is the mindset he fixed when he plays against lin dan. You can always see his confidence down vs him playing with others

The best shot LCW has when LD pushes lcw for forehand like that is to send the shuttle flat to the middle because if he sends to cross court ,LD has lot of options

Lin Dan thrives better under pressure against LCW!

because at this corner, if lcw lift, lindan will smash and high tendency will loose point, that is lcw strategy not to lift and play net.

Lee c w is more fast than lin dan but lin dan used his strategies against Lee to beat him. Lee only loosed to Lin dan many times bcz of his own many unforced errors usually in 2nd sets in all matches. Plus lee c w always becomes a little nervous in final points. Otherwise lee c w is more than Lin dan in terms of physical performance
