Hydrilla is a remixed boat tour of Wakulla Springs, a protected freshwater spring near Tallahassee, Florida. The piece is a collaboration between musician Joseph O'Connell and filmmaker Todd Chandler. Hydrilla incorporates Chandler's footage of the spring with O'Connell's original music, and is interspersed with excerpts of narration from a local tour guide. Over the course of the piece, the naturalist comments on historical ties between local arboreal life and the industrial production of dynamite, the perseverance of a tree decimated by lightning, and, finally, the virtues of the Florida Manatee.

The music is an alternate version of “Demise of the Bible Birds,” a song from O’Connell’s recent album Where in Our Woods (released under the band name Elephant Micah). Acclaimed singer and songwriter Bonnie “Prince” Billy and electric guitarist Jason Evans Groth (Magnolia Electric Co., Coke Dares, Impossible Shapes) contribute to the track.
