Then why was pex approved for water systems in the houses?

I am not crazy about PEX either, it is easy and cheap but does not last long or look good either. In Wisconsin we have good water that does not destroy copper so copper is a good option in my area.

I guess one fix would be a whole house filter with a charcoal cartridge.

I'd heard (unconfirmed) this is a Pex-A problem.
It really sucks, because I've heard that so many 10-15 year old builds in my city are experiencing pinhole leaks in copper piping installs. I'm guessing copper isn't as reliable as it used to be. I know 3 families that have had to repipe their new homes from copper.

Whether or not they keep a monochloramine or free chlorine residual. Surface water treatment plants typically run mono.

So glad i was too lazy to figure out how to use PEX when i re-plumbed my house. Its all soldered copper. 😁

My understanding is that there is chlorine resistance in today's PEX. However, it is not UV stable. So if your pipes are exposed to direct daylight or a UVC disinfecting light too close to the PEX piping it will strip the piping of its chlorine resistance causing premature failure where chlorine is in your water. However, if you don't have chlorinated water then exposing the PEX to any kind of light radiation won't cause premature failure.

Then what came first the chlorine or the pipes that corrode? Why should someone be responsible for you putting in pipes that you know will fail based on the water supply? Also, it is concerning the water we drink literally causes pipes to fail, imagine the damage to our internal pipes.

Whole home filter after the meter before it enters the owners plumbing responsibilities

Mostly on cheaper pipes!! But have seen it over the long haul on better quality pipes… with the exception of white rehau pex

Does the chlorine used for water softener cause a similar effect?

Look at the ASTM standards of your pipe before using it. The manufacturing process of PEX determines its resistance to chlorine.

The failure is caused by the pex being bent but yet we're told to bend the pex when possible rather than using fitting?

They are starting to make houses disposable just like appliances.

is that PEX B piping affected also?

So use 90s and hang it properly? Or I guess an inline carbon filter. Does this mean copper is still the best?
