I'd heard (unconfirmed) this is a Pex-A problem.
It really sucks, because I've heard that so many 10-15 year old builds in my city are experiencing pinhole leaks in copper piping installs. I'm guessing copper isn't as reliable as it used to be. I know 3 families that have had to repipe their new homes from copper.

My understanding is that there is chlorine resistance in today's PEX. However, it is not UV stable. So if your pipes are exposed to direct daylight or a UVC disinfecting light too close to the PEX piping it will strip the piping of its chlorine resistance causing premature failure where chlorine is in your water. However, if you don't have chlorinated water then exposing the PEX to any kind of light radiation won't cause premature failure.

Then why was pex approved for water systems in the houses?
