Want to experience the largest and longest glacier in the Alps from a new perspective? Then this glacier tour is perfect for you🧊
Operated by Bergsteigerzentrum Aletsch, the season runs from June to October 20th this year. In the summer, tours are offered daily, while in June and autumn months, they run three times per week.
ℹ️Here’s some practical information to help you decide if this tour is right for you.
🚶The tour is suitable for most people (10+), but you should have decent stamina. You’ll need to hike for about 1.5 hours to reach the glacier, with around 300 meters of ascent and descent, and then repeat the same way back.
⏱️The full tour lasts about seven hours, including 2 to 3 hours spent on the glacier itself.
🧤Dress in layers—while it may be warm outside, the glacier can be quite chilly, especially during the lunch break.
🥾Crampons and other equipment will be provided by your guide, but you’ll need sturdy trekking shoes with good grip that cover your ankles.
☀️Don’t forget sunscreen, a hat, or something to cover your head.
🥪You’ll also need to bring your own lunch, but pack light, as a heavy backpack can make the hike less enjoyable. Be sure to carry enough water as well.
💸The cost of the tour is around 100 CHF per person, not including the cable car, which costs about 14 CHF with the Halb Tax. The tour is offered in both German and English. They also offers other tours, including a two-day glacier hike with an overnight stay in a hut.
❕Even though you’ll be guided, it’s important to be mindful of your footing, as glaciers can be dangerous due to hidden crevasses. Stay aware of your surroundings and enjoy the experience to the fullest.
🙋♀️If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment, and enjoy the gl
