A hip hinge is a natural human movement. Whether you decide to work toward lifting a barbell or not, there is great benefit in learning how to do this exercise confidently.

This series provides a variety of ways to increase the difficulty of a hip hinge in small increments.

It may actually be easier to do the first two variations than to not use any weight at all! Some weight can help to “fire things up” and make it easier to feel what muscles should be working.

As you gain confidence with each movement, progress to the next once. Once you are rocking with the KB/DB deadlift, then you can start playing with the bar again.
