He retired from acting but how do we know he isn't just preparing for a role where he plays a retired actor.

His performance in that movie was an example of the best acting that is humanly possible.

DDL made this film look like a documentary, in my opinion the best acting I have ever witnessed on screen. The father, the bussiness man, the cruel, the savage.

When you see DDL in interviews and hear his natural voice…you can really appreciate how great of an actor he is and his ability to completely change is voice to fit whatever character

He looks 20 years younger there in real life as opposed to that character

This came out the same year as No Country For Old Men. I think that won picture of the year and DDL won for best performance. Both masterpieces

I wish there were more films about the gold and oil rush. After reading extensively about the gold rush, it's one of the most insane an interesting times in American history, it should be a new sub-genre of Western.

This guy is like a leprechaun. He's extremely rare to spot, but when he does pop out he makes pure magic.

I served him one time in SoHo while he was making Gangs of New York. He was staying at our hotel under the pseudonym Bill (his name in the movie). Super sweet guy. Somewhat reserved. Just one of those quiet geniuses that can light up the world when he wants to.

He’s not saying method acting is absurd but the nature of acting in and of itself is an absurd thing that becomes more apparent as you age and why method acting is more necessary to get over that feeling.

He becomes the character. It’s so profoundly believable that you forget you’re even watching a movie.

First saw him in Gangs of New York. His performance as the butcher was phenomenal. Still one of my favorite character to this day.

His performance in that movie still just astonishes me. And at the end, I still don’t know exactly how I feel about him, but I’m willing to keep guessing and reevaluating infinitely. I could watch this movie 1 million times.

He is a good example of acting as an art form.

I wasn't expecting Daniel Day Lewis to look like that in real life.

I had no idea he was this young in real life. What a great job both to his acting and make-up!

Some people have been touched and blessed by the gods and given the ability to work ,create and do certain things better then anyone else in the world. This man is one of those people. He has worked incredibly hard but it’s more then that he has a great gift and I am so glad we have his great body of work to watch and enjoy.
