Solidarity protest rallies have been organized in various locations worldwide to draw attention to the urgent plea by Tibetans in Dege County to halt China's planned dam construction on the Drichu River. The rallies being held by Tibetans in India, U.S., Canada, Europe and elsewhere aim to shed light on the plight of the more than 1000 Tibetans who have been arrested in Dege County and the people's concerns that the dam will result in the submersion of key monasteries, such as Wonto Monastery, of religious, historical significance and the forced relocation of several communities.
