YES. As a lab scientist, the short staffing has KILLED us.

burnout in healthcare isn’t just about exhaustion—it's about the emotional toll of working in a system where priorities seem misaligned. when resources are poured into marketing and big-name sponsorships while frontline workers are stretched thin, it makes you wonder: is the healthcare system truly focsed on patient care, or is it more about profit and image? this disconnect is not just a logistical problem but a moral one. how can we expect to deliver compasionate care when the system itself lacks compassion for those who provide it?

Seeing an understaffed hospital charge for parking/building a new fountain in their entryway makes me IRRATIONALLY angry almost to the point of violence...

It’s definitely a planning problem. As my co worker lovingly says “this hospital has deep pockets, but really short arms”

I was a lab assistant in the hospital during covid. When everyone was getting their morning rush lab testing, I was the only person there to handle every single lab test. This was a 2000+ bed hospital that was more than full at the time. Never was thanked for hard work but yelled at repeatedly for not being enough.

IT here in Healthcare: The company I work for let go of hundreds of people, and skipped yearly bonuses for the boots on the ground workers while at the same time buying other hospitals and constructing new buildings. They want to impress shareholders but now we don't have the infrastructure to run the company reliably. People are calling in pissed about accounts and equipment not working properly but hey, execs are still sitting in meetings all day with their million dollar salaries.

When staffing is so ridiculously short on a constant basis because of budget, yet administration is getting huge bonuses for keeping staffing low there is definitely mismatched priorities between providers and admin. And it shows in how staff feels about their workplace.

-Greed
-Immorality
-Lack of humanity
-Lack of respect
-Lack of time
-Unpaid duties and expectations while those at top line their pockets
-Sick-care instead of health care
-Waste of time and resources with administrative tasks better handled by others
-The list goes on
No need to continue in a field that makes both patients and doctors and staff sick. It is rewarding at times but also has destroyed many lives. Ever since 2020, it should be clear: the money is not worth your integrity. No thanks.

Being overworked as a housekeeper in a hospital during the first year of covid made me leave the hospital environment after nearly 10 years I loved working in the hospital but always doing the work of two or three ppl wears u down

When I was a CNA a lady came to our nursing home to see if it's a good fit for her mom (an extremely smart thing to do). she gave me a brief run down of what was up with her mom and asked if she would be a good fit for this nursing home. I pretty much told her no (she talked about her mom having dementia and needing pretty intense psychiatric care) because we just aren't really that kind of place that could adequately help her mom. She thanked me for not lying and left.

Short staffing, aging or shortage of equipment & supplies, lack of respect, lack of recognition, lack of compensation...

My wife graduated nursing school on the east coast and we came out to California where she got her first job as an RN. The California Board of Nursing took 4-5 months give her a CA license. She called and called and called trying to make sure everything was squared away. She would have to be on hold for hours, only for the person to be rude and short with her, or transfer her over to someone else who doesn’t answer the phone. It was extremely depressing and it was harming our family’s finances. It was also one less RN out there to take care of people. This issue has persisted in many states since COVID. It needs to be fixed.

I’m in college right now for social work and we’ve talked about this at length. They refer to it not as burnout (although that does occur), but instead as “moral injury”. People who enter these professions do so often with the selfless desire to help others, but enter a system that is made only to profit and often take advantage. The result is a workforce that feels guilty and debilitated, yet powerless

I work at a hospital and it’s rather common to be short staffed 100+ nurses. Utter insanity

As a person who goes for blood tests often and doctor appointments , I'm always nice to everybody exactly for that reason. They are overworked 150%!!!

As a Emergency RN, it comes down to two things. Horrible Patient - Nurse ratios, and poor pay for the responsibility. Alot of hospitals are scummy and will pay nurses the bare minimum we will allow. (cough cough, HCA)

Corporations will always pay their heads of Board of Directors and CEOs first with profits before anyone else. 🤨
They seem to forget their industry wouldn't exist without doctors and nurses

Such truth! I worked for a system that laid off over 200+ employees, including many of my friends. Yet, they sponsor every single sports team in town. I no longer work there BTW.

A country’s healthcare being primarily privatized and not treated as a utility is a failure to understand what healthcare is: an investment in one’s people.
