We are also using a wooden clapper to simulate gunfire.

It's a great tool to not only gradually train a dog to get used to loud noises as you transition to real gunfire, but also for maintenance if you can't use real gunfire regularly.

It was a short session, but Jax did really well with the retrieves and particularly his stop-to-the-shot i.e. when he hears the clapper (or gunfire) he'll immediately sit if not sitting already.

However, he still needs work on his hold and marking of the bumper when it lands because at times, the anticipation of the retrieve would distract him and he'd look at me for the relase instead of where the bumper landed.
