St. Thomas Aquinas defines it excellently, I believe he said that love means to will the good of another. More than just a feeling, but something that you do, even when you don’t feel like doing it. I think of how I’ve heard that sometimes some homeless people, not all, may give people that are helping them a hard time, like the nurses and nuns and volunteers, and love is when you put your feelings aside and you put someone else before you even when it hurts, even when you don’t want to, and even when the other person themself may not want you to. That’s the high call that God has for us, that, as you mention, to lay down your life for someone else. As I type this, I think that along sacrificing your life literally for someone else, you can also take it as living for someone else, as Paul shows in his letter that are teeming with love and service to the gentiles he was desperately pleading to come to the Lord and live by Christ’s way.

1. Love has to be between 2 People? Why cant 10 , 20 or 100 people be married to each other
2. Who says that love has to be between humans? Why not marry and animal?!
