The parts we buy are made by foreign companies running factories in China to their specs. This is totally different than Chinese schlock factories making substandard shit to sell it cheaper as made in China.

You forget one very important thing. The Chinese parts in your car fall under the meticulous eyes of western manufacturing corporations, every one of which has the wherewithal to subject them to rigorous quality controls, to which and given the Chinese companies want to to continue doing business with those corporations, comply. When, however, you buy a Chinese direct export car from China—i.e., your only “middleman” is the showroom—theres every chance you’re getting in it all the parts that din’t pass minimum American quality controls.
