The SHOCKING Purpose of Limiting Beliefs


Every LIMITING BELIEF your client has... has a PURPOSE. It has a BENEFIT.
Last night I had a coaching session with somebody who really felt that they couldn't manage their own time.
We discovered that that limiting belief was a way for them to get OFF THE HOOK in regards to what other people thought of them. Because, if this person was inept at managing their time, then they wouldn't have to tell the truth about what was really going on that had them do things that other people didn't like.
The point is, EVERY limiting belief has a POSITIVE PURPOSE. And, in this case, it was to defend against other people's judgments using some limiting belief as an excuse, or as something to get them off the hook for being responsible for what they didn't want to take responsibility for.
Watch your clients for why they have a limiting belief.
That limiting belief lives because it serves them in some way... Protects them. Gets them off the hook. Helps them feel better.
Your job as the coach is to figure out... what is the positive intent behind that limitation, so that they don't have to keep buying into that BS.
