Ironing straps with a hair straightener is a stroke of genius and also the funniest thing I have ever seen. I was taught to sew by my mum and grandma so I’m very traditional in my techniques, people that teach themselves are bonkers and amazing

At 64, I decided to start trying to learn to sew. My go to has been several YouTubers who teach step by step on how to make smaller items such as Lady's wallets, credit card wallets, totes & such. They are very thorough giving measurements, material types & go carefully through each step. Due to health issues, I went from a slim person to plus size several years ago. I can't seem to shed the weight regardless if what I do & noticed how most of the plus sized clothing seems old. Yes, I'm now 65 & don't want to dress like I'm in my 20s or 30s, but I also don't want to dress in a style 65 year old women did 30 or so years ago. I prefer cotton, muslin & linen & admit my style is a bit Bohemian, but I don't want my clothing overly loose, it makes me look larger. I bought a few patterns, but am just overwhelmed by them. I had a tunic that I loved because it was cut a bit more narrow at the waist, creating a more favorable curve. When it became too snug, I decided to carefully take it apart to make it larger to make myself some new tops. This worked for me, but patterns still confuse me. Lol

looks great! A good thing to know is that a lot of comercial patterns have a lot of ease/loosness which as you continue on your pattern resding journey, might result in a different look than you are expecting, so it might need more tweaking at first! I tought myself hoe to read patterns too, and learned so much. They are scary!
