4 years of finishing classes and I would never leave without saying where I'm going while at a cafe like this. At a dinner where we're all seated, "Excuse me," is enough, but not while out getting coffee. Manners are a beautiful way to show respect but common sense will take you farther.

it definitely depends on the company IMO, but I do like at least letting people know I'll be back soon. Most of those examples work for casual settings or with friends, but the last one is probably best for a formal meeting.

Here in new Orleans, you gotta tell them you're going to the bathroom because of you say "please excuse me, I'll be right back" that means you boutta go handle some business and a fight might be happening

"please excuse me, I need to use the restroom" people will know what you are doing, will know about how long to expect you to be gone, and can find you if you're needed, there's an emergency, or if you're gone too long they know where to start looking. if I just got up and left saying "please excuse me", I could be doing anything, from going to the bathroom to going outside to call someone or smoke. Its not enough, but it can work. We are mostly adults, so why is mentioning that the restroom is where you're going a problem? We all go, its natural
