Funny story about that. Kirby was given the name Kirby in honor of the lawyer John Kirby, who was Nintendo's defense attorney in a lawsuit case in 1983. Universal City Studios tried to sue Nintendo over the last name of Donkey Kong, claiming trademark infringement of King Kong in hopes of forcing Nintendo into giving them royalties. ....however, Universal kinda forgot that they ALREADY previously proved that the King Kong character and plot was already in public domain from a case in 1975. Ergo,making all of their claims baseless, their lawsuit in bad faith, and the courts seeing nothing more than a "farcical,childlike,and comical" parody at best of King Kong in Donkey Kong.
