In Mobile Legends, if you have a certain rank and a certains number of unlocked champs for a role (example Im mythic rank and have 6 jungler heroes unlocked) the game forces you to play champs in casual twice before letting you play them in ranked, since you have other picks available that youve played before

To anyone who has a problem with new champions being allowed in ranked:
Champion picks and bans are a part of skill expression.
If you pick the champion, your choice to pick that specific champion is a reflection of your skill. Sometimes you pick like shit. A skill issue is not a reason to change how the video game works.

Y’all can find a ‘solution’ for new champs in ranked, but you need to remember people first-time champs that are new to them too, not just new champs.
There are so many double-standards to ‘solving’ this stuff. If you lock first-timing champions to norms people will stop playing the game, and if they don’t, they’ll get flamed in norms anyways. be so honest, y’all flame people in norms all the time!!! people will never have a consistent standard for this stuff

While its true that some people will still play the champ with no experience on them (it still happens with older champs too), the issue is when the champ is brand new EVERYONE is new to fighting as or against them. While the hype for the character being bew drives wome people to lock them in, if they werent in ranked tor a week or so, that increased chance would be reduced, and people wouldve had the chance to figure out how to play against it.
Theres also something to be said about every champ releasing these days requiring dozens of fixes to get around where they think they're balanced.

The biggest issue I see for what a lot of people suggest is that you would have to play, exclusively to unlock champions in ranked, at least +60 games. You have to account for 10 bans and 9 other picks... Then at least 3 picks per role because if you get autofilled ADC and you unlocked just toplaners you ideally don't want to go Mslphite ADC. So... yeah. Being that restrictive isn't a good idea, especially when not every champ is Ambessa or Kalista and most have fairly simple kits.

I feel like everyone suggesting the champion mastery requirement is way underestimating how much that would suck. First of all, it breaks champ trading in champ select. Nobody's going to put 3 normal games (or whatever the requirement) on some random champ just to unlock trades. It also breaks autofill. I'm not playing 3 games of normals on random off role champs so I have them unlocked for ranked.
It also would just suck to play. Normals are just not even a part of the game for so much of the player base, you're just forcing everyone into low quality games for essentially no reason. Any number of games/champion mastery points that feels sufficient to set people up for instant success in ranked will be way more than most players will ever choose to get. And for adults who only have time to play a few games a week, forcing them to play in ways they don't want to in order to play the champ they already unlocked would suck.
And it ignores many of the ways people learn new champs: watching videos / streams of people playing it, watching the champion spotlight, reading the wiki to learn the moves, trying in practice tool or custom games, watching pros play it in competitive, playing against it in ranked. Like you're going to tell me I don't know what Renekton or Thresh do well enough after 1000 encounters with it to play it in ranked?
Also think about it from Riot's pov. That champ mastery gate would kill the hype and momentum of every single champion release. It would also mean waiting weeks more for any meaningful balance feedback.
And finally. I think it way overstates how big the problem is. The games with people first-timing new champs are just not that bad imo (speaking as a one-trick who doesn't play or ban new champs to be clear). You can ban them, or you can also just chill and play the game and have a good time. It's much more likely I'll encounter some random griefer or toxic player that runs it down way worse than some first time Ambessa player.

Not found in this clip, but August does talk about making people play a champ x times before being able to play it in ranked. iirc he said it’s also a good idea but it can be a problem because then a lot of people will just never ever try it (a lot of people only play ranked), he might’ve said more but that’s all i could remember
