Virtue signalling monetised.. I suppose it was only a matter of time before some unscrupulous a'hole took advantage of the fact that people like that care only to be seen doing certain things, not actually doing them.
Image is the driving motivator for most of what these people do and the choices they make. They may be rich, but they are slaves to their ego. Never content. Always reliant on others' approval and attention to feel complete and fulfilled. So I pity them. There is nothing more likely to ensure extreme unhappiness.

worked as a phone banker when i was trying to be a young republican in 2000 politician. in the office of 50, you were NOT ALLOWED to speak to this group of 10. weirded me out until i had 5 of them in 400 level classes both semesters. all recognized me, tell me to do this and that around the office (mind you we're the same age and education level at the republican call center). the head of the republican center came up to me, asked where I'm from, what high school I went to, then she asked, "how much do your parents donate". Said nothing, and I was let go from a college credit work course. found out the 10 people I wasn't ALLOWED to talk to were heavy donor kids who did nothing and got the college credit. I befriended 2 who switched sides in 02 and 04 but my Poli Sci degree is unused forever because of this experience.

Even before watching this, it was always clear to me that those things function like that. Rich ones pretend kindness and generosity for getting a good image, tax benefits but also for personal lying to themselves (doing sth good, but easy and in reality trivial for them, for feeding own ego). Leaders of humanitarian organisation who use their positions for own benefits (mostly only bstards come to those positions, because well intentioned people spend their energy for helping not for grabbing positions,so mostly only questionable ones invest their energy and time for grabbing the top), and then,at the end of that chain, come those poor ones..who are in trouble, but got used so much to that that they learn to be passive, stay their whole lives inside those same boxes in their minds, participate in that same sick game not even understanding that they do...and that's why the situation never changes.

Oh yeah, this is really common (even if this video is old). The rich people do it for social media. The rich kids do it to pad their portfolio for school, internships, and job opportunities.
