It can be very difficult to teach a puppy to sit then stay because they want to be with you all the time. One great method I always use and encourage my clients to do is to begin by commanding your puppy to sit, step away one foot, then return to your puppy - reward and release. This will help build your puppy's trust that you will return and that all it has to do is stay focused on you and remain in a sitting position.
