Bend your knees till your belly touches your thighs. Then ground your heels slowly. So much more reachable!

This Asana ( Yogapose) is called urdhvamukha shwanasana (downward dog pose) in sanskrit. And in original form, the feet should not be up on toes like that. The feet should lay flat as much as it can to the ground. And that is the thing.. that putting feet flat , it stretches calf muscles.

Your feet position is not correct.
