Originating in Japan, 'The 5 Reiki Principles' were created by the Founder of Reiki, Dr Mikao Usui, who taught 'Usui Reiki', which is a form of energy healing. There are now over 100 types of this beautiful healing modality and these 5 principles are a great foundation for all of them.

You don't have to be a Reiki practitioner, or even be receiving Reiki healing to practice these principles; anyone can practice them and incorporate them into their lives. Dr Mikao Usui created these principles to help people to live in the moment, practice self-care, show compassion for themselves and others, bring about peace and harmony, improve their personal and spiritual growth, and improve their well-being.

These principles are not hard rules; they are aspirational statements which can act as affirmations, which when said daily, can be very powerful.

These principles also allow for the fact that we are human and may fall short sometimes, despite wanting to make better choices. If we do fall short, we must always acknowledge our progress and that we tried, and then we can always take the opportunity of a new day to realign ourselves once more.
