“Fix bayonets!” Is probably the scariest thing you can hear on a battlefield regardless of which side you’re on.

Brits will always fix bayonets given the chance.

The bayonet to my mind is a lot like the tank or the trench. Everytime someone says “obsolete” it ends up showing right back up and being useful for its intended purpose.

Probably wont get rid of bayonets because of the psychological benefits.

Bayonets are used for watching prisoners or very heavy close battle. But mainly because somebody won’t rush your long gun if they’res a a big ass meat hole puncher

When I did my basic infantry for the Coldstream Guards (UK fluffy hat soldiers) my final part of the trading was 3 weeks exercise in Scotland. The final step was we marched for 10 miles at 3 am arriving at a Forrest on a steep hill. There was a crackle of gunfire and smoke in the air. The command of fix bayonets happened. Then bagpipes started blaring. We were then commanded to storm up that Forrest plunging our bayonets into pigs blood filled dummys. For me at age 17 the part I remember most is the smell of smoke the sound of the bagpipes and the feeling of the blood splattering over my face. I can't imagine what that must have been like for real. I found out later on it was a recreation of a battle in the Falklands War.

I remember reading an Argentine soldier's account of fighting during the Falkland Islands war in which he mentioned the detrimental effect on morale brought about by the knowledge the British forces were advancing and clearing trenches with fixed bayonets.

Trench fighting is back in style. In trench CQB your mag is empty you stick the enemy first then change your mag. Entrenching tools have been used too

"Fix bayonet is not something you want to hear in the 21st century." Incorrect. I have waited for that moment my whole adult life.

Can you really say that any weapon is obsolete if it still does the job? It's not like we've developed an immunity to getting stabbed

You know you're fucked when you hear the British Army say "Fix Bayonets!"

"Fix Bayonets is not something you really want to hear in the 21st Century" Bro as an Infantry combat vet I can tell you that if my PL had called Fix Bayonets I would've been at half mast almost instantly.

Can't fix your bayonet when your bayonet never stops being fixed
