I have a character that was petrified for 50 YEARS because his old party was too low level to free him when it happened and forgot to do so later because he was just some boring human fighter. Anyway, he's been mildly traumatized by the event and also finding out that all his backstory motivation are totally mute now

i actually had an npc who was afflicted with a curse that was slowly petrifying him, like ossification, but his AC was dummy thicc because of it, he was still human on the interior, but an outer shell had petrified over him, and he decided to make the most of it before he was completely petrified, my party went back way later and used greater restoration on him once they had the ability to cast it, and he became their Master of Arms at their keep

Thanks to this video, I made my wildest character yet! John Stoneblock started off as a normal human stonemason with a wife, kids, and overall happy life. Then he got bitten by a vampire, and through the powerful blood of the undead became a Dhampir. He tried his best to fit into normal society, but to no avail. One night, vampire hunters came knocking on his door, and they killed John and his whole family (but he doesnāt know that the rest of his family is dead). Fueled by malice and revenge, John rose as a Reborn Dhampir human just days later. He tracked down the Vampire Hunters and their lair, but little did he know that his strength was no match for their arcane prowess. They had a powerful wizard on their side, who cast āFlesh to Stoneā on poor Johnny. To ensure he never came back, they dumped his petrified body in the bottom of the ocean. And that is where he remained for centuries, mind never resting. After his four-hundred and eighty-second year, a powerful eldritch diety promised him some of his humanity back in exchange for a favor. Through the power of his newfound patron, John Stoneblock spent days trudging through the depths of the ocean, before finally resurfacing as a Stoneborne Fathomless warlock. The favor his patron asked of him is his most highly kept secret, and there is no doubt he will do his best to uphold the pact, lest he be re-turned into stoneā¦or worse. His personal goal, however, is to turn back into a normal human and live out the rest of his life in peace. Be it through gaining his own patrons favor enough to make it happen, finding a spell-caster with unrivaled power, or divine intervention, John is willing to do what it takes to get it done. His story will likely not be a happy one, however, as he is blissfully unaware of the time elapsed since his petrification.

The Shadowdark version is really cool. I might even use some against my players in the near future. A Stoneborn scouting ahead in Shadowdark has a lot of creative solutions available to it with the petrified form. For instance, joining a grouping of statues in its petrified form to not get noticed. Cause why would any GM/Ref have a roll be done to fool the enemy with a creative solution like that.

Did I just listen to an ad on purpose? Yes, I did, and I backed.
