IMO, Lin Shidong is one of the best new generation players. He will soon become the face of Chinese TT like ZJK, ML and FZD. This serve of his is not giving him a good reputation, many of you say this and that everybody is doing it etc...but if he can try and make it more honest and still beat all top players that will be good for his reputation

Sure, fans will say that the camera angle is the problem. Ok then, but what about the fact that he serves outside of the table side line? Or that the toss was not ever straight up as well?

For all the people saying that the ball is hidden, don’t quite me but I feel like the camera angle is hiding it from us and from the players height they can see it just fine, but this is just a guess.

I have a friend training in China right now and he says that they all serve like that there, and that it's always impossible to see the spin they're generating.

Coach can you please make a video analyzing the technique of Lin Shidong, how come he is able to give such good quality balls but looks so effortless. He is not even the strongest physically. Especially his Backhand is so effortless! I am sure with your help there are some important details we can learn.

I am a camera man. This is not the camera angle....he hide the ball...maybe he throw the ball 30 cm away to the lkeft, its not hidden. but, unfortunetly the ball NOT vertical! this is illegal too

From this angle, many people have illegal serves. Asian championship game used this angle. Miwa, Sun yingsha have similar suspects in hidden serves. And no one cares about Odo's serve? Her serve is also illegal. when Sora played against LSD, his serve is obviously illegal. This generation is full of hidden serve. Let's take that.

It is an illegal serve. The rule says: " The ball shall not at any time between the throw and the ballcontact be obscured." It means that it really does not matter where the other player stands or what camera angle is used. The ball shall never be obscured. During Waldners haydays there was no rule stipulating this. Furthermore Lin makes actually another service fault. He also makes a "backthrow". The angle that the ball creates between when the ball leaves the hand and up to the highest point shall be almost vertical. Although It is not mentioned in the rules the maximum angle should be somewhere around 15 degrees. Lins serve has a 45 degree angle so It is totally illegal. Lin also obscures the ball with both his arm and torso making It a quite in tabletennis unusual double fault! But who wants to spoil the party?

They are the professional players, all those players know how to serve correctly, can't even have self respect for themselves, let alone sportsmanship. I hope the coaches have done their job probably. The era of hidden the ball when serve has long gone.
