A sweet very OCD TBM befriended me as a new convert. I was very OCD too, so I made Sister Sweet into my Golden role model. Although I ignored her fashion tips. She rocked the pioneer woman couture. I was surprised when she had me over to watch Legally Blond. Love that movie, and it’s PG. Sister Sweet had edited the entire movie to turn it into an acceptable G rating. She had probably 100 DVDs she had edited, spending hours on each one. And she was RS pres, obsessed with family history, a stake designated Temple Patron, worked as an in home care taker, and her youngest was still in high school. She told me many times to have the safety of the spirit always with us we must occupy our minds constantly with good music, movies, books and conversations. I could cry thinking of how hard she works to just feel safe.

I DEFINITELY noticed this superiority complex when I moved to Utah. My husband and I even sang in Conference and during rehearsals they said, "Aren't you glad to be part of the ONLY living church?!" Lots of people cheered.
I, a Protestant only there for my LDS husband, knew in that moment I could never join a group that prided itself on excluding people or thinking they're better than others.

"I was answered that I must [listen to] none of them, for they were [vulgar], and the Personage who addressed me said that all their [songs] were an abomination in his sight, and that those [musicians] were all corrupt; that: "they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they [curse] for [music] of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof."

Please stop! The more people you get to leave the church the more traffic there will be on Sunday’s. I loved Utah in the 80’s and 90’s, it felt like the rivers, lakes, ski resorts were all mine on the lord’s day.
