Michael didn't like to rehearse at 100% singing strength to preserve everything for performance day. This dude always picked highly talented people. They're just preserving their voices

I have been told that when it gets near concert/performance days... they are told to not strain their voices. In fact, they are even told to avoid talking as much as possible 2 days before show time. So, as bad as that did sound, chances are Michael did request they not strain or put out the volume during the last few rehearsals. I think he already practiced enough with them to know they can do what he asked so it wasn't worrying him much. Looks like they more on still learning the hand and arm motions.

They aren't messing up, most don't go full on to save their voice and not strain it. MJ did that too, just not in this one. But you can see he isn't really dancing. They're clearly just getting a feel of things
