Ever had this scenario happen to you?

You sit down at your desk, ready to start your work day, and pull up your to-do list. The first task reads:

“Work project”

But you can’t quite remember what the first step will be, where to find the information, or frankly what the work project deliverables even are?!

This happens all too often with to-do lists and can quite literally waste your time, which is the opposite of what we’re aiming for.

I have good news - there’s a really simple fix.

When you have a new task to do, make sure to make note of it with a simple action verb. Tell your future self what

And this is not just a hack for work tasks, but for life stuff too.

For example, using an action verb would turn:

“Present Mom”

into…

“Pack present for Mom before HK offsite on Wednesday”

Your future self will thank you. Make sure to follow for more instantly actionable tips 💡

This is fantastic advice. The more specific, the easier it cam be to start a task, too!. And if we use the same verb ie, "email" or "buy" or "research" it can add another level of sorting. All up, just a brilliant little hack. Thank you! I'll be using this

With To Do lists I vary. Start with the action? Or with the prrson or place?
Send emails - mom re dinner
- Jerry re job
- Steve re Jerry

OR...
Mom - email re dinner
Jerry - email re job
Store - buy toothpicks and Lego

===
It may change. Especially if theres a current umbrella category (same verb) under which to lump multiple. Emailing. Shopping. Etc.

Don't forget to state when and where the task will be carried out, by then you'll be more likely to do it

Verb + Noun combination. For example, "print document".

My problem is that I don't take action no matter how "verby" I capture the tasks... I need to be more selective and lower the unrealistic ambitions. At the moment of writing this I have 286 in my Reminders app neatly sorted within projects and all. Too ambitious so to say 😢
