Long Distance: Met her when she was an international student in California. I definitely anticipated the long distance, but neither of us were emotionally prepared. At least once it came down to me flying back to the states.
Parents’ Approval: Shortly after her term ended, I flew to Japan with her and met her parents. We definitely got along, although there was some struggle with language. Her father’s sense of humor is great!
Language Barrier: Fortunately she knows English and I know some Japanese. However, nuances in both languages vary, which can cause a lot of misunderstandings. Especially during tense situations. We definitely don’t use this as an excuse though. We always find a way to meet half way.
Administrative Procedures: This is definitely going to be a tough one, but we definitely talked about it a lot!
Just my experience!

Lol so true.. 2 years long distance…
Never introduced me to her parents..
Couldn’t go to Japan due to border closures(administrative procedures) made long distance hard..
Spent so much time learning japanese, only to hear you aren’t funny, and won’t be able to support me emotionally coz I can’t talk with you in japanese.
Add a 5th - bad at communicating! Only wants mind readers.

Lived In Japan and fell in Love with the people and the culture. Didn't do well learning the language but got by. Left Japan to raise an unexpected Newborn. Baby all grown up and trying to find my way back, still looking for that special one to spend the rest of my life with In Japan. Male at the age of 50 i dont think ill ever have a chance to meet someone special from Japan again. =(

I was fortunate and I was prepared at the same time. It was definitely a long-distance relationship for the first couple of years. I would fly out to Japan and she would fly to the U.S. Now here we are now 20 years later and married for 18 years of those years and we have a daughter.
Her parents accepted me which I really wasn't worried about and my wife didn't seem to really care if they accepted me or not. We were just dead set on being together. It was actually pretty cool because her parents have a really good sense of humor. Her dad said "so are you going to marry my daughter?" I said "yes" and he said "I am so sorry." 😂
