As someone who has been in this field for years (and have experienced a tornado) I can agree, along with the windowless room, go for the most interior room of the building and cover yourself with anything you have.

We should probably learn those things perfectly, before Kieram sends a tornado to us all!!!😬

1. Under an overpass

overpasses can either be very safe or very dangerous. if they have a way for you to get in between the rafters then that is a very safe place, but if not, your probably better in a ditch.

A lot of homes down south where i live dont have basements, which is pretty unfortunate.

Just to add on, a ditch should be your very last choice. You should always seek shelter In a well built structure. A ditch can become a problem due to debris, often times cars and any structure near you will end up in a ditch because the wind won't hit it. Not to mention if there is any amount of significant rainfall then your ditch will fill with water. Be weather aware people it can keep you out of situations like that.

2 horrible tornados came through a part of my city, and my fifth grade teacher and her kids were in the car to hide and they got flung into the air and hit a tree. She’s alive, but she was a sucky teacher. I’m glad I’m not in fifth grade anymore, my elementary school sucked

Actually, my dad is still repairing our house from the tornados. They merged right over our house. This happened in MAY. It’s SEPTEMBER now.

For anyone who has watched Twisters. Yes they went under an overpass but that wasn't smart. 3/4 of the friends got sucked into the tornado. If you are ever in the same situation, like driving your car or just outdoors, get out of your car immediately because that will easily be thrown around. And absolutely do not go to a overpass, that is probably one of the worst places to go. Instead try and find a ditch or somewhere where the ground dips and lay down on your stomach putting your arms over your head and don't look or get up until the tornado has passed. Hope this helped with any confusion

You also wanna go into a closet if you don’t have a basement or a shelter. But yes, cover yourself with a mattress but be sure to be out in the hall as well. You also need to keep in mind that ditches might not always save you because things can get tossed in there and land on you. It has happened before. And if the tornado is an EF-5 rating, a closet, bathroom or hallway will not always save you. That is tornado where you need to be underground for. An overpass still is an option if it’s a last ditch option. But still isn’t always the best.

Always remember: If you see a tornado and can’t tell which way it’s spinning (left or right), then it’s most likely headed towards you! also, if you do have a basement, bring with you batteries, flashlights, and if there’s time then also bring boots and helmets if you have any.
