Osage Orange. It's a strange fruit. Apparently they were eaten by Giant Ground Sloths way back when. With their extinction though, the tree no longer had a natural means of seed dispersal. They only exist because humans kept them alive.
As an aside, they are edible for humans as well. But, they need significant processing for little reward. Weird Fruit Explorer did a video on them a while back.

hedge apples.. i have a whole row (75 yards long?) lining my south property of the 120 year old schoolhouse i live in! i gather them for squirrel winter food π
