I almost pulled the trigger on a chibson...but decided not to. Instead, i bought a gold Epiphone Traditional pro SG with push pull pots. Paid $360. New headstock. Probuckers. Guitar rocks.

the original gibson PAFs were not potted just like these pickups and are quite "microphonic" through a high gain amp as well.With that said , a microphonic PU can be made quiet and controllable by simply waxing .Heat up a small pot of paraffin wax and remove pickup cover and dip the whole pickup let dry,reassemble, and reinstall.The wax permeates the winding and stabilizes the copper wire and encapsulates it.Stewmac offers the parson st. paf reissuescwhich come potted and wound to I think 9.5 ohms resistance just like the overwound PUs that would occasionally make their way into the early guitars.Don't knock these chibsons.Some but definitely not all have flaws.I know I've got one and it is a monster.Just perfect right out the box.Nothing on this guitar needed replacing.There's alot of talk among the bedroom superstars who have determined before even touching the guitar that every component, down to the bare wood needs replacing.Completely juvenile! Ive owned 7 Gibsons and every single one needed tweeking in somevway or other for comfort or sound.It is rare that you will find a stock guitar that is a perfect match to your personal preferences.Furthermore the chibson guitars are being built exceptionally well, right out of Gibsons epiphone plant in china and most, if not all of the chibson guitarscare over production.Finally if you think the hardware on the chibsons is junk, understand that almost none of the hardware aside from pickups is made in USA. It's all made overseas.

They make them better than gibson these days. $300 not $3000. Buy a $80 pickup problem solved. I have both chibby new pickup You would never be able to tell the difference

A Chibson I was gifted years ago had single coils under the covers and tiny pots, 2 of which werenβt even connected to anything.

If you plan on getting a chibson anyways and want to replace the pickups I recommend fleor pickups. They are super cheap and pretty good quality

I believe I had a Heritage Les Paul copy I bought from a pawn shop in Milwaukee around 1982, and it played great no squeel from the pickups at all .

Ive had Roswell pickups less microphonic then that and there guitars usually under 200 (probs built better too)

Buy a Les Paul Tribute. Spend under $1500 and get a Made in USA guitar built beautifully with the amazing 490/498 humbucker combo.
