Not to “um, actually” this, but it wasn’t aluminum that was in library paste - it was “alum” aka “ammonium alum!” It was what gave the paste a sweet taste, and was used because it helped prevent spoiling and molding.
In small quantities it was safe, and in fact a lot of people ate little bits of library paste because it tasted so sweet. You know, a little bit of poison, as a treat! That may be part of why this dude thought it was safe - people ate library paste on the reg! So he thought hey, why not? He was starving, it had flour or some other starch in it (and thus, calories!) and so surely he had found some sort of way to stave off hunger for just a little longer.
Now, this isn’t to say that aluminum itself isn’t toxic - but I believe it would be in even higher concentrations (although I am not a chemist, so take this with a grain of salt. Which, technically speaking, ammonium alum is a salt!)

I live in a town with a lot of hippies. And I always here stories of them saving their placentas and always getting eaten by dogs and cats. I heard one similar to 4:22 . But they actually did bury it. The neighbor's dog dug his way into the yard and got it
