Scottish Gaelic has been spoken as an indigenous language in Scotland for thousands of years, and it is as different from English as Japanese is and equally hard to learn. Once spoken in much of Scotland it is incredibly rare these days, spoken by only 1% of Scotland’s population, but I visited the remote Scottish island of Uist where it is still used to see what locals would think of an American tourist speaking this ancient tongue. A big thanks to Ann of www.lovegaelic.com/ for taking me around and you can check out her courses and immersion trips and also James Macletchie from www.igot2travel.com/ who is an amazing tour guide from the Islands (and native Gaelic speaker).

The only time you add water to whisky is if it’s just come straight out the cask, otherwise you’ll feel like it’s burning the back of your throat. It’s an acquired taste, but lots of variation and there are some lovely ones out there. I usually have a bottle of Johnnie Walker Gold Label in the freezer.

Love a smooth scotch. Just wish the average pub in England had more in. It's typically a binary choice between terrible and cheap or brilliant and expensive. Handful of places have decent stuff for an affordable price, but you'd expect it would be easier to get hold of in England.

He didn't say "It's my first time here" btw he said verbatim "It's only my first trip on the Island" just for clarity.

Edit**

Someone correct me if this wrong. GRMA.
