It's a digitized version of archeologist David Macaulay's satire of his profession, "Motel of the Mysteries," where he posits that the "lost civilization of Usa" finally collapsed because the entire society was "covered in layers of junk mail."

If you care about saving it then become a scribe and put it into physical format. It will be erased otherwise no matter what with enough time due to the suns rays. If it truly has value for the ages it will be worth writing down.

I was born in the late 70s & it's interesting to think about landmarks that existed PRE internet. Stuff like Challenger or Chernobyl, truly existential events are really the only collective memories. Otherwise it's just the mundane that individuals my age remember
