A tactic many Vikings used was to send in the berserkers first to confuse the enemy and create chaos. They also had some encirclement tactics and shield wall tactics for arrows.

Vikings didn't have particularly unique tactics but they did still use tactics. No fighting force of any kind would be successful without atleast some basic military organization, formations, and communication. Without that even basic strategies, which is what wins battles, would he impossible to pull off.

It should be mentioned that pretty much every description of berserkers in the sagas are pure fantasy. They probably did exist, in one form or another, but no one goes into a battle, without proper armour, or a coherent formation, and comes out again.

The shield wall. They had many Vikings at there disposalās most time. Having some bowman hidden within the shield walls. Using other men to drag some enemies behind the shield to kill. Thatās what Iām aware of, I honestly donāt know every tactic besides they would send the berserkers before engaging the enemy with the shield wall.

Depend of region.
Some vikings use beserkers as surprise attacks or when they were out numbered.
Vikings from Sweden were the most tactic vikings, more matured warriors. They use more swords+shield than axes. Vikings from Norway were the sailors(ship builders), farmers(they mostly prefere use axes than swords) and in some regions of Norway they use to recruit beserkers(wild mens).
But the majority of Beserkers/warriors came from Finnland.
Denmark was the vikings that ride horses and build traps, Archeres,etc..
Some Finnland vikings were great at climbing trees and shoot arrows from there.
Sometimes the leader of each region in battlefield use a huge axe like Rollo did at the beginning of Viking serie.

They were raiders they used hit and run tactics and moved on quickly when raiding. During the viking expansion and the great heathen army they had to adopt some tactics like the shield wall which they got from the saxons. Shield walls were a common style of fighting for later anglo saxons. And the wild hit and run raiding tactics were not as effective against this. Its debated how skilled a viking fighter was individually. But i believe a culture built around raiding and fighting out of necessity would be skilled fighters. And certain empires like the Byzantines using viking bodyguards and mercenaries speak to this. The Varangians, viking mercenaries were considered to be some of the best and sought after mercenary fighters in the world at the time

The only vikings who fought in one group were the jomsvikings. Like all other viking races, they had berserkers and fought singles, but their tactic was mostly in groups. They called them jomsvikings bcz of their settlements in Jomsburg but they were actually danish vikings.

They believed they would go to Vallhala , to live in the Great Halls with the Gods . Because of that , they had no fear . That was a thing that others didnt have . They just kept coming .
