Even though this is not concrete evidence of symbiotic relationships between distantly related organisms, I can imagine it being a thing back then much like it is now. And this fossil might provide a glimpse of that.

There ate contemporary examples of animals which tolerate untelated animals within their burrows, maybe even kinda welcome them because the "guest" provides some protection or something like that.
About that time, living in burrows seems to have been even more important – wasn't it even during the great dying?
EDIT: I looked for it and saw that the great dying had ended about 1.9 Ma before but the conditions must still have been harsh.
