Bed bugs? Hut info? Cost breakdown? Water? 👇🏼✨
You can book the huts online through www.montourdumontblanc.com/ . If you don’t want to do the entire TMB loop, you can choose to stay for just a few nights! (Full route on previous post)
A few of the huts said that bed bugs can sometimes be an issue on the TMB. We did not not encounter any along the way. When you stay at the huts, you bring your own sleeping sack + pillowcase since they don’t wash the linens every night.
Breakfast & dinner are served every morning and evening & are included in the reservation. They are able to accommodate for dietary restrictions! I emailed each hut a week before arriving (emails on TMB website) asking about celiac & they said it was no problem. Breakfast was typically 630am-7am & dinner was anywhere from 630pm - 730pm. Snacks & lunches are on your own. Since you pass through so many towns with grocery stores, I never carried more than 1 days worth of food.
Allegedly, the huts state that if you arrive after a certain time, they can give up your bed if someone else needs it. This time was 6pm for most huts. We never saw this happen, and typically there was extra room in the ones we stayed at anyways...
Water situation? I brought a 1L Nalgene and a 0.5L water bladder. I did not bring a water filter as it’s typically not recommended. There are many potable water springs along the route, but there were a few situations where we ended up having to buy (EXPENSIVE) water at a hut. I would recommend bringing a water filter just for backup. It is noted not to drink the glacial water without filtering due to the high amount of sediment.
Cost breakdown 1 person in USD...
lodging: $618 for 7 nights (5 huts, 2 nights in apartment)
food: $296 (snacks/lunches/restaurants)
transportation: $80 (3 gondolas, 1 shuttle, 1 train)
baggage: $162 (storage + last min shipping for 1 bag)
Best months? We did the trail June 20-27, & it ended up as an abnormally HOT week. A lot of the snow had melted early so we didn’t truly need to use the spikes. Juny - August are popular months and need to be booked 6+ months in advance!

I also filmed a long form video and will be posting that within a week or so with more info!
