I wouldn’t want to have to edit myself with another human that I’m in a relationship with. Freedom of expression is important to me, so while I can appreciate this advice may be useful for the partner of an avoidant, this wouldn’t be a situation I’d actively choose.

This is actually an interesting test for oneself. Do I like the version of myself, when I'm with this person? Or did I like my old self better? If a relationship is right for you, you can tell by how you feel about yourself.

My avoidant has these exacting standards, and that sounds tough. Really, though, it causes me to do my best, to be my best, because otherwise she, in her super-independent way, will do it herself. If I can do it the way she does it, and she likes the finished product, she's happy, and it makes me happy!!!
