Oof. Add on top of that the hours of volunteering, lesson prep, talk prep, and sacrament meetings attendance. When the main goal is āget to the templeā there is a very high price.

I could easily have several million if I invested 10% in a good index fund over the last 56 years instead of giving it to the church corporation. Sad.

I think the better question is, "How much does LDS salvation cost?" I like Christian Salvation. It's an eternal, free gift of God. Rom 6:23

The church members who pay tithing donāt see it this way. To them, paying tithing is required of the Lord, whether you actually go to the temple or not. There are many areas around the world where there isnāt a temple close enough for them to attend. They pay to keep themselves āworthyā of the Lordās blessings. Now these āblessingsā arenāt a given, and sometimes theyāre told they come in the next life. So I can see how they donāt view tithing as a fee to get into the temple.

That would be about $3-4k per temple visit for me during the last couple years before my faith crisis. Really stings. ... I'm sure my bishop would say "well, you should have gone to the temple more often then" š¤£š¤¦š»
