I have an 03 tacoma. I've been spraying my frame for years with fluid film inside and outside and it still looks like new. That is definitely a weakness of 1st Gen tacomas.

Yup. Toyoya sued the crap outta the contractors responsible for the crap job of spraying the frame.

The company that built the frames was supposed to dip the frame in an expensive chemical to prevent rust. They were using water instead of the chemical. Toyota stood behind their product and replaced the frames on a lot of trucks. Most of them were done as an extended warranty. Some were done as part of a recall

The contract company that messed up the frames is the Dana Corpetation . The also make frames for GM and Dodge . They also make the springs and the Dana rear end found on the Dodge trucks .
Toyota payed Dana extra money to run the quality control on these frames and wow did they screw up.
Many Chevy Sierra pick ups had the same problem with their frames and GM told the owners tough shit . Toyota too care of every customer with a bad frame . Go Toyota ๐

Very true, i worked at Toyota in Lexington Ma. We made a killing doing frame jobs between the Tacoma's paying 40hrs and the tundras paid 20hrs. We couldn't do enough of these it was like an assembly line. At one point I could do a Taco in a day and a few hrs so close to 10-12 hrs. One old Guatemalan guy cried when i told him his truck was unsaveable. I told him he was lucky they gave him a new truck! He didn't care he didn't even want it. His 98 looked like he waxed it daily ๐ข

I said just put a floor jack under the differential and change the tire. ๐ฎ

My 07 fj did this when it was 5 years old, it was barely paid off. It took me a year to rebuild it
