That's actually smart to let people use their own batteries, always appreciate products that let the consumer choose how they want to use it.

Seems like a loose connection somewhere. It probably wouldn't be hard to fix but good luck finding where it is...

Gloria: "It's bending in the middle!" Mike: "You can fix that easily by hitting on the side."

I used one of those as a kid to film skateboarding tricks w my friends. I would carry a car jumper battery w a cigarette lighter charging port, in a backpack bc the battery life was god awful. It was a hand-me-down, so I didn’t have the directions and I had no idea I could just use AAs.

Might need a connector reseat. Weird lil' things like that have sometimes fixed odd issues for me (iPod not detecting its own hard drive)

Love this! Thinking ahead where previous models sold a battery adapter (one of my favorite video 8 handycam accessories). Panasonic has a AA pack for the Palmcorder series, too.

Letting you use AA batteries makes so much sense, and its really useful nowadays because that battery pack is definitely dead by now

I still have mine. The AA batteries didn't last near as long as the regular battery, but they were nice to be able to use in a pinch.

Some of the sony hi8 cams used to come with a special battery pack that took 6 AAs and snapped in the same way a rechargeable would.

That was good thinking on their part because back in the day when we used these usually when traveling, we wouldn't always have access to power socket, especially if sightseeing. What we always had access to were bunch of places selling batteries.

Wow, I wish more tech (when user-swappable batteries were a thing at all) had the option to use AAs instead. That’s so ridiculously handy and simple. Not to mention, with the cheapness of modern rechargeable batteries, it probably will be useable for much longer than a lot of other camcorders (cough Sony cough).

Quite a nice camera actually, this is something I'd have bought in the early 00s used and kept for way too long

Your monitor! I love that I recognize the monitor you're using... For the last 20 years, I've had the same monitor on the desk across from me displaying the security camera feed of our hallway outside the door. It was there decades before me. And we haven't needed the security camera feed for more than a decade now. But it's the one piece of old equipment I won't let my coworkers throw out. The hallway image is burned into the screen and can even be seen when the monitor is off. I love that dumb monitor. I love that you were using the same thing even more!

We still have our Hitachi VM H270A and it looks nearly identical. We also somehow managed to hang on to the weird s video and composite out cable for it

We had one of these when I was a kid or a similar model. Not sure I remember having a screen but the annoying battery door that didn't close unless it was on right, the battery packs, the W/T button above it as well as the other controls.
